Explain Everything! Practical Uses and How-Tos for Screencasting on Your iPad

Welcome to the Explain Everything session at Odyssey 2014! I am excited to work with a group of fabulous Langley teachers today as we learn about cool ideas surrounding screencasting for visible thinking and learning in the classroom.

You can get started by browsing through my slides for today, which you can access by clicking here.

What is Screencasting?

Student Examples

Screencasting can be used for capturing explanations, procedures, and thinking processes. In this example, the student is working with counting money for the first time and will be able to reflect on their learning and growth as they continue on with the unit.
This student is recording their levelled reading on Explain Everything. It allows the student to record, listen to themselves read, and assess their own skills and thinking.  An added bonus is that it gives us a transparent assessment tool, too!
Screencasting can also be used to create polished presentations. This example is a product of inquiry and research in Social Studies, a presentation created on Keynote, and a recorded presentation on Explain Everything.

Supplemental iTunes U Course

If you are interested in learning about some of the pros, cons, and uses of various screencasting apps for the iPad, check out my iTunes U course on the topic, which was created as an assignment for grad school.
